Why it matters
Fresh Step Crystals absorb twice as well and stop urine odor five times better for up to 30 days, per Fresh Step. They're light to carry and gentle on paws.
Small crystals keep dust down. You scoop solids and stir, then change the litter when it's spent. The listing is two 8 lb bags.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Good fit if
- Crystal-pan users
- Scent-sensitive homes
- Crystal-compatible boxes
Look elsewhere if
- Clumping-only self-cleaning boxes
- Cats that dislike crunchy texture
- Owners who prefer to scoop clumps
Pros and cons
Pros
- Unscented
- Up to 30 days (maker)
- Lightweight
Cons
- Crunchy texture
- Not for clumping-only boxes
- Needs stirring
Limitations to weigh
- Crystal litter suits crystal-tray boxes such as the ScoopFree and boxes whose maker lists crystal litter; most clumping-only globes reject it.
- Switch litters gradually by mixing in the new one over about a week; abrupt changes can put cats off the box.
- Stir crystals daily so urine spreads evenly.
