Why it matters
The Ultra adds a front-entry hood to ScoopFree's rake and crystal-tray system, giving shy cats privacy and containing scatter. An automatic rake removes waste hands-free.
Crystal litter absorbs moisture and dries waste, the tray has a leak-proof plastic lining, and a health counter with motion sensors tracks how often your cat visits.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Good fit if
- Shy cats
- Single cats
- Scatter problems
Look elsewhere if
- Owners who prefer clumping litter
- Multi-cat homes
- Cats that dislike hoods
Pros and cons
Pros
- Covered
- Health counter
- No scooping
Cons
- Crystal only
- Ongoing tray cost
- Hood not for every cat
Limitations to weigh
- Set it on a hard, level floor near an outlet. Weight sensors read wrong on carpet or uneven tile, which can stop or trigger cycles.
- Automatic cycling has a minimum cat weight; keep automatic mode off for kittens under it and run cleans manually.
- Empty the waste bin before it's full and keep spare bags; an overfull bin is the most common cause of a stalled cycle.
- Running costs come from the bags, liners, filters and litter the maker specifies. The compatibility checker lists refills that state they fit.
