The short answer

For a short absence, set upn automatic feeder you have trialed, with backup batteries, two water sources, an empty self-cleaning box with fresh litter and a camera. For longer trips, cats with health needs, or any doubt, arrange a sitter or friend to check in.

Food

  • Run the feeder for several days while you're home first.
  • Fit backup batteries.
  • For wet food, use a cooled feeder within its stated time limit.

Water

  • Fill the fountain and add a plain bowl as a backup in case the pump stops.
  • A gravity waterer such as Kacoomi’s set needs no power.

Litter and monitoring

  • Empty the self-cleaning box's bin before you leave; check its stated bin life.
  • Watch in with a camera such as Furbo 360°.
SafetyAutomation is a backup, not a substitute for a person checking on your cats during longer trips.
